The problem with healthcare...

"$59,000 and all I got was some morphine and this lousy tumor."

That's the t-shirt slogan of the day.

Mom got her insurance statement which shows that her first stay in the hospital from November 6-9 was a whopping $59,000. She went into the ER for a nosebleed that wouldn't quit and came out with a sinus tumor, a whopping headache, and a multitude of drugs in her system that had her so screwed up for days she didn't even know where she was.

$15,000 of that bill was for the operating room.

Are you kidding me?

Try $250,000 for scoliosis surgery, but I actually think that was worth it. She was in surgery for 11 hours and in the hospital fo 11 days including several days in ICU. ~ ST

Back in March of 1991, I too had scoliosis surgery - its cost: $15,871.41. What I actually paid: $16.35 for a bottle of pain killers.
"Managed", or rather, "Middle-Man" health care is both what and why our health insurance costs are so ridiculous these days. Let the doctors decide who really needs what - not some arseholes who no nothing about a whole 'lotta nothing. And yes - my "condition" was pre-existing. There's the difference between now and then....
